Doetse strikes in Olympics' win
Great Olympics continued their upward surge on the FCPPL log with a 1-0 home win over All Stars in Accra on Saturday.
The visitors failed to score in the first half despite pinning their hosts to play second best all through the opening exchanges.
A tweak in tactics by Olympics gaffer Yaw Acheampong managed to subdue All Stars’ overwhelming dominance and they were rewarded with the only goal of the game just before the hour mark.
“In the first half we decided to go in with a 4-3-3 system but we saw that it was very difficult to break through their defence so we came back [in the second half] and changed the system and things went our way,” Acheampong told SuperSport while admitting to his side’s first half struggle.
“It was a difficult game though,” he quickly added.
On 58 minutes, forward Agbashie Doetse headed down from a corner-kick which bounced off the ground to beat goalie Richard Ofori after being left unmarked by the All Stars defence.
Despite taking the lead, Olympics were kept on the edge for most parts of the remaining half hour but did well to defend their lines to seal their sixth win after match day 12.
“The result could have been different. It is just unfortunate in football when the luck is not there because the only goal they got, they scored.”
“Sometimes when you create all the chances and you don’t score you get punished,” All Stars coach Jimmy Korblah told supersport.com after his side’s fifth defeat in 12 games.
The win moves Olympics to 18 points – one above Saturday’s opponents, All Stars.
Match day 12 of the 2015 FCPPL continues on Sunday with the following fixtures:
New Edubiase v Bechem Utd
Hearts of Lions v Medeama SC
Aduana Stars v Berekum Chelsea
Hasaacas v WAFA
B.A United v AshantiGold
